Running on Empty: Watching my Future Self Die

2013 wood, fabric, wiper motor, ‘78 Oldsmobile fuel tank

Originally called Running on Empty, the second part of the title was stumbled upon during showing the piece when the battery running the wiper motor began to die causing the rocking chair and the self portrayed figure to rock slower and make an eerie “thunk” until it ceased to move. This piece was Amy’s first attempt at kinetic sculptures. A video was taken of the “happy” accident but was unfortunately lost to time.
